Winners of Boston Moves for Health Physical Activity Challenge Receive Prize Money

Three BPS schools have been crowned winners of the Boston Moves for Health Physical Activity Challenge. These schools are –

Manning Elementary

Elementary winner – Manning Elementary, walked 626 miles

 

Young Achievers

Middle/K-8 winner – Young Achievers Pilot Academy, walked 505 miles

Charlestown High School

High School winner- Charlestown High School, walked 110 miles.

The BPS Health and Wellness Department, Partners Healthcare, and the Boston Public Health Commission visited the  three winning schools  on March 11th, 2013 to present them with a $750 check to purchase physical activity equipment for classroom teachers at their school.

The winning schools have ordered various physical activity equipment to offer new and exciting physical activity opportunities during the school day. Young Achievers has decided to purchase an Xbox and Exergaming games for their students as well as various fitness equipment for teachers to use in their classrooms. Manning Elementary has decided to purchase various outdoor equipment to be used at recess and other physical activity events during the school year. Charlestown High School has selected different pieces of indoor equipment, such as bean bag toss and mini basketball hoops to offer fun breaks for their students during the school day.
